Starting and finishing at Loch Leven's Larder fam shop and café, this is an easy walk close to Scotland's largest lowland loch. We will explore the open countryside, farmland, mixed woodland and loch shore between the café and the village of Milnathort, using paths and cycleways, with a section on the core paths that use the line of the the old railway between Kinross and Ladybank. There is a castle and an ancient church to visit. As a National Nature Reserve, Loch Leven has much wildlife interest.
Note: a shorter version of this walk can be achieved, simply by walking to Burleigh Sands and back. This would be about 4.5 miles. Please contact the leader.
The route uses well-made tracks, paths on the Loch even Heritage Trail and on the Milnathort core path network. One or two paths are more informal and narrow, with possible muddy sections after rain. There are a couple of public roads to cross, obviously needing care. There are no stiles or gates to climb.
