Starting from London Waterloo we will take the Jubilee line to Canada Water. The walk will take in the former Surrey Docks before moving through Russia Dock woodland to Greenland Pier. We’ll walk past the Peter the Great statue before arriving at the Cutty Sark for a 45 minute lunch break (please bring packed lunch or buy en route). There is a cut off point here for anyone wishing to take a boat back to Waterloo or visit the Greenwich museums.
Next is the 370m Greenwich foot tunnel to the north bank of the Isle of Dogs with spectacular views back to the Royal Naval College and Royal Observatory. We’ll continue the walk through Millwall passing Mudchute Farm onto Millwall Docks. Canary Wharf is the next destination where the Jubilee line can be taken back to Waterloo or follow the group to visit the Museum of London Docklands. Free entry and contains the history of the docks including the slave trade.
Exact timings and meeting place will be notified to attendees nearer the time.
Following the Thames Path for part of the route there will be a mix of historical sights, statues, hidden parks and green spaces, docks and marinas and sky scrapers at Canary Wharf. This is a flat walk and will involve pavements, crossing bridges and roads, and navigating busy areas. Note that if the lift isn’t working at Greenwich tunnel there are 100 steps to climb down and 80 steps to climb up.
Choice of bars and restaurants afterwards. Only assistance dogs please.
