Overview

A very rewarding circuit through Blaenavon Heritage Park Site and Gilwern Quarry, with glorious views and some fairly steep ascents and descents. The lost village of Pwll Dhu has a few part remains of the old town.

There will be a short steep road incline early on, this levels out along an old railway track path. You will need sticks for the walk as there are a few steep climbs along the way, these will level out, on a clear day the views will be worth it. I have changed a few stretches of the walk to take us away from boggy and muddy patches, there are one or small muddy parts. The descent is steep but manageable.

By CAR from Abergavenny, head west on the A465 Heads of the Valleys road. 3 miles later take the exit A4077 signed to Gilwern. In Gilwern look for the car park on the right, immediately after a pedestrian crossing. As you turn in from the main road there is a road on your right, this can also be used for parking, on the right hand side as you start going up the hill. W3W - nuzzling.ballparks.protest
