This walk takes us from Piccadilly Station to Media City / Salford Quays with multiple insights into Manchester's past, present and future.
From Piccadilly we'll walk along the Rochdale Canal to Castleford Basin. We'll pull off to visit Manchester's Highline, the sky gardens at Castleford Viaduct, followed by a visit to Manchester's Roman remains of Mamucium.
We'll return to Castleford Basin, join the Bridgewater Canal and walk to Pomona, where we move across to the Ship Canal, which we follow to Salford Quays.
For those that wish to, we will enter the Lowry, and visit the Lowry 360 exhibition, an immersive showing (and sounding) of Lowry's most famous painting, Going to the Match. After this we can visit the L S Lowry Exhibition to see more of Lowry's work. Entry into the exhibitions is free.
After this we'll have an early supper at Media City (probably at Prezzo) and then take the Metrolink back from Media City to Piccadilly for the train home.
Those who do not want to see the exhibition / eat can take a metrolink return to Piccadilly at their leisure.
We will take the 10:10 train from Crewe to Piccadilly.
Please bring something to eat (which we'll take at Castleford).
Because of the need to book tickets for the exhibitions / restaurant, please would you advise me of your attendance by May 1st. Numbers will be limited to 16 for this walk.
