To celebrate this auspicious occasion Portsmouth Ramblers are organising a walk, chosen by Marion, from Guildford around the area where Marion was born and spent her early years. All members and friends of Portsmouth Ramblers are welcome to join us.
As the longer walk at 12.9 miles is slightly longer than our usual Saturday walk, a shorter version at 6.4 miles, joining half way, has been developed so that everyone can walk with Marion back into Guildford.
Whilst driving to Guildford is an option which some may wish to consider, parking in central Guildford on a Saturday can sometimes be difficult. In recognition of this we have timed the walk around train times from Portsmouth.
Shorter Walk – 6.4 miles and c.500 ft of ascent/descent. From Silent Pond we make our way to Albury and thence back towards Guildford crisscrossing the Tilling Bourne passing Albury Mill before taking in the old Chilworth gunpowder works, before returning to the Chanteries ready for our return into Guildford via the Castle. Walk will have lunch at Silent Pool with the second stop on the return leg.
Getting there - The 10.37 stopping train from Portsmouth arrives at Guildford Station at 11.59. From there it is a short walk (c10mins) to Guildford Bus Station for the Number 32 bus at 12.30 arriving at the Silent Pool at 12.50
