A walk round the base of the Eildon hills from Melrose, returning via the Eildon Hall Woods. The walk follows St Cuthberts Way southward from Melrose initially, then skirts the base of Eildon Mid Hill before passing between Eildon Mid and Little Hill. The route then heads downhill to visit the old Bowden Curling ponds then crosses Bowden Common to reach a track which passes through Whiterigg Stables. A further series of tracks and paths lead through Eildon Hall woods to reach the Old Bogleburn road and eventually back to the start point in Melrose.
Walk is a mixture of paths (some narrow) and tracks of varying quality with a little road walking. Due to recent very wet conditions it is muddy in a number of places with slippy tree and heather roots - walking poles and gaiters are highly recommended and decent footwear is essential. Pack lunch and drinks required. Car sharing costs from Peebles are £4 per passenger.
