A day out on the very scenic Cambrian Coast line with a shortish walk of about 3.5 miles from Minffordd station to Porthmadog mostly along the Wales Coast Path. The route crosses the A497 from the station & into the Portmeirion Estate grounds & carries on to a viewpoint overlooking the Glaslyn Estuary with (conditions permitting) lovely views of various Snowdonian peaks & Porthmadog. The descent carries the path down to the A496 which is quickly left as The Cob carries the path along its length with the Welsh Highland Railway close-by into Porthmadog where lunch will be taken.
The initial train journey starts from Machynlleth at 0852 & arrives at Minffordd 1042, with the return journey dept Porthmadog at 1402. arr Machynlleth 1555. There are several cafes in Porthmadog or you can bring your own food & there should be about an hour for lunch. The walk grading is in terms of effort BUT there is a moderately graded descent.
