The walk is part of an East Yorkshire and Derwent Area Camp weekend. All Ramblers members are welcome, pre-booking essential.
Join us on an adventurous circular walk from Muker via Swinner Gill and Gunnerside, taking in the beautiful surrounding Swaledale. The walk starts at Muker car park, we then proceed along the River Swale before ascending Swinner Gill. Renowned for its disused lead mines. From there we walk over moorland towards Lownathwaite Moor, before returning along Gunnerside Beck and its lush woodland to Gunnerside. Then following the River Swale back to Muker. The walks enjoys splendid views of Swaledale and its mining heritage.
Sorry no dogs due to livestock.
This walk is graded as generally moderate however, there are a number of sections that are more strenuous, due the nature of the terrain eg steep narrow precipitous path ascent/ decent, height gain and expected lengthy walk duration.
The walk is along defined paths and tracks that can be narrow, rocky, stony and precipitous in places, which may become even slippy in wet conditions. Expect numerous stiles and narrow wall gates. This walk also takes in exposed moorland, it is essential that you wear / take appropriate clothing and walking boots. In addition we would also advise waterproofs, sun hat / sun protection, walking poles etc. The walk leader will advise on the weather forecast / walking conditions etc at the meeting point. Please remember to bring plenty of fluids, lunch and snacks. It is essential if you have any concerns to please let the walk leader know as soon as possible. For further information see
