River Tyne and Ryton. From the starting point at Newburn we cross the river and head East for a short distance before turning South to follow the Addison village woodland trail to make our way to old Ryton village. From there, Westfield lane takes us down to the Tyne valley Rail line where we commence our return leg along the edge of Tyneside Golf course to Ryton Willows and then join the Riverside path to return over the bridge to Newburn.
Mixture of well defined paths ( Riverbank, gravel, asphalt, roadside, park, woodland) through riverside, open pasture, woodland, village, and meadow. Generally flat, but a few short gentle inclines as well as one short steep incline and one short steep incline up woodland stairs. Grade: Moderate.
Hydration stops on route. Hot and cold food and drinks and a bar available on the upstairs terrace of the Tyne amature Rowing club with splendid views of the river at the end of the walk.
