An ascent of one of the Yorkshire three peaks, Pen Y Ghent, from Horton in Ribblesdale.
This is the Yorkshire dales at its very finest, with spectacular views to Ingleborough, to the rocky formation of Malham Cove, and a detour to take a look at the impressive and imposing Hull pot cavern. Followed by a cool down in the pretty Yorkshire dales village of Horton-in Ribblesdale.
The walk distance is 6-7 miles and has an ascent of 500m, so is likely to take 4 to 5 hours to complete. It is a relatively long and challenging ascent with one section of scrambling on the descent, so a good level of fitness and hiking experience is advised.
Weather is likely to be warm and we will be exposed, so make sure to bring plenty of water and sun protection.
Starting point will be the small car park of Horton-in-Ribblesdale train station. The 09:19am Carlisle bound service from Leeds arrives at Horton-in-Ribblesdale at 10:30am.
Horton-in- Ribblesdale has a small amount of parking at the train station and a large Yorkshire dales national car park towards the centre of the village.
Please note there are no toilet facilities at Horton-in-Ribblesdale station, but are available at the Yorkshire dales national car park we will be passing. These will be the only toilet facilities along the route.
Well behaved dogs on a lead are welcome, but please note the walk distance and ascent and be sure it is suitable for your dog.
