This is a varied walk including moorland, reservoirs and woodlands with some sections walking along fairly quiet roads.
We start from Balerno Bus Terminus, where we head east to Harlaw Car Park. Continuing into the Pentlands via Maidens Cleuch, we climb part of Bells Hill to descend into Den’s Cleuch. We pass alongside Harlaw Reservoir and Threipmuir Reservoir, with splendid views of the north west Pentland ridge, returning to the Bus Terminus via Rigg Road, Nail Trail and Cockburn Crescent.
For any walker wishing to do a shorter version of the walk, it may be possible to start/finish at Harlaw Car Park.
If you would like to join us, please contact the Walk Leader to book a place in advance, noting that for some walks places may be limited. Please advise the walk leader of any issue that may affect your ability to complete the walk.
Also, if you have one, please remember to bring your ICE card with you; or, if you don’t have one, a note of your proposed emergency contact name and number will be required in case of emergency.
Paths are mostly good, but there are some places which may be boggy/muddy if there has been recent rain; therefore stout walking shoes/ boots, gaiters and walking poles, if you use them, are recommended.
Please note that, unfortunately, dogs cannot be accommodated on our walks.
All finishing times are approximate.
