The walk begins at Flotterstone car park where we follow the reservoir road on a gradual incline until we turn onto a path marked Castlelaw Hill. There is a hill fort on route which is worth a short detour. The ascent is steep onto Castlelaw Hill but with views opening up over Scald Law and The Kips is worth the effort. A steep descent before climbing Allermuir Hill (493m). Weather permitting the views over Edinburgh and beyond are amazing from this point.
Descending to path we climb up to Capelaw Hill then down to Phantom's Cleugh and following the fenceline up and over Harbour Hill down to Maiden's Cleugh before following the path back to reservoir and car park via Glencorse Glen with stunning waterfall.
Boots, poles and gaiters recommended. Good paths throughout which could be muddy in parts following heavy rain. Hopefully the heather will be in bloom, which gives a stunning display.
Please advise walk leader Ian if you plan to travel direct to Flotterstone car park.
This walk is graded B+/moderate to strenuous
