A new walking trail has now officially opened in East Ayrshire. The Covenanters Trail was planned to ensure the bloody history of the "Killing times" of the 17th century during the fight for religious freedom in Scotland will not be forgotten.
Using forest tracks and existing public byways the Covenanters Trail begins at the Covenanters museum at Loch Goin Farm on the edge of the Whitelees Windfarm and finishes at Fenwick Parish Church.
Toilets are available at the Museum.
This is a linear walk. Car ferrying will be arranged beforehand at the meeting point to ensure transport to and from the start and finish points.
Walk surfaces are mostly all flat and even therefore sturdy walking shoes would suffice. Poles are optional.
The Kings Arms Hotel in Fenwick is a few yards away from the end point of the walk for those who would like to finish with a refreshment.
