Walk details

We'll start by walking through Windsor, around the walls of the castle and down to the river. We’ll cross Windsor Bridge over to the Eton side, and joining the Thames Path, turn upstream across the Brocas. We’ll follow the river for about three miles, past Boveney Lock to reach the small church at Boveney. Here we’ll leave the river and cross the wide open space of Dorney Common. If it’s a clear day, we will be able to see Windsor Castle in the distance, marking how far we have walked!

Depending on numbers, we will have a pub stop at the Palmer Arms in the village of Dorney. After that, we will join the Jubilee River - an artificial channel built in 2002 to provide flood defences for Maidenhead, Windsor, and Eton - downstream, following it until we reach the famous playing fields of Eton College. We'll pass the wall used in the College's unique Wall Game and stop briefly outside the College main entrance. The walk will conclude by heading down Eton High Street and crossing the bridge back to finish at Windsor. There is the opportunity of a drink at either the George in Eton or the Duchess of Cambridge in Windsor before heading home.
