Overview

From the start point we walk past the outer wall of the Castle, past the old Church and the site of the Priory.  On towards the A1 motorway and then south towards Eastbourne. You cannot miss the TK Maxx, Home Sense and Amazon Warehouses.  Then across the fields to Carleton (good views to the south) past the Church and Rugby Union ground.  Walking south over the fields we reach East Hardwick village and Hundhill Cricket ground for lunch. Then west to the junction with Pontefract Road and the plague stone.  Onward to the pumpkins, KOYLI Barracks and the final half mile through Pontefract passing the Counting House, Church, Buttercross, Town Hall and finally the entrance to the Castle. Only 1 stile.
