We shall follow the road up to and then skirt Portmore House. Walk through the woods to come out beside Portmore Loch where we break for coffee. Then we do a circumnavigation of the loch to reach the Northshield Rings. From here we walk south and find a lunch spot in the wood. Continuing on down past Skiprig and then back to the Scots Pine.
Total distance is 6 miles (not 5 as given on the programme) ascents are gradual and the grade C+. We shall walk on a mixture of tarmac road, forest roads & track, open ground and overgrown undergrowth (advice is no shorts).
The walk will start from beside the Scots Pine Café in Eddleston, Scottish Borders. Driving north out of Eddleston on the Edinburgh Road (A703) leave the 40 mph zone and on the right is a bungalow and the green and white Scots Pine Café. Turn right immediately and park in the lane beside the café. The postcode EH45 8QS applies to several locations to the north of Eddleston so only use it to get to the vicinity of the Scots Pine Café. The grid reference is NT 244480. The walk will start at 10 am.
WARNING: There may be cattle on a part of this route but they are usually quite docile.
