Leaving the car park, we follow the River Tyne east, staying as close to the river as possible to enjoy the views. We briefly join the waggonway to cross the river on the old railway bridge. Leaving the waggonway, we head to Horsley Wood/Holly Hill, taking in the wonderful views of the Tyne Valley and the River. Heading north to pass through Horsley Village,
We then cross Gallowhill Lane and Gallow Hill Heading towards Whittle Farm and the top part of Whittle Dene.
Leaving the dene we head to Ovington and make our way back to Ovingham and the car park via St Andrews Lane, Whittle Dene and the car/ foot bridge.
Terrain: mostly well defined paths, woodland trails, pavement and fields. Some short moderate inclines, nothing too steep or strenuous.
Refreshments: Lunch stop en-route, hydration stops when required. For those who wish Refreshments at the end of the walk, there is the Adam & Eve pub or the cafe in the car park (I believe it closes at 4pm)
