Starting from Back Lane, we might just take a quick peak at the lovely ford in Ramsbury, which was impassable on the day of the recce, before heading west alongside the recreation ground and fields to reach Ramsbury Manor, from where we join field paths to cross the Lake in Manor Park. We then follow a track adjoining the Wilderness and join a tree-lined footpath to cross the River Kennet to reach Axford. A steep ascent and descent takes us to Sound Bottom, from where we use farm tracks to reach Oak Stagger, passing Sound Copse, Well Ground Copse and The Rookery on the way. A selection of field paths including one very steep ascent, take us to Wise's Corner before we drop gradually down to Manor Farm before ascending steeply through Staghorn Copse to Hilldrop Lane. A steep descent on a firm track then joins field paths to take us into Ramsbury.
Please note that this is a hilly walk. Furthermore, some of the field paths used were wet and muddy whilst others were dry and firm on the day of the recce. The farm tracks being generally in good condition. If further significant rainfall is experienced between now and the day of the walk, then conditions may become more wet and muddy underfoot and hence walking boots are recommended. If you are used to using them, walking poles may be useful on the hills. There are five stiles all of which are in good condition.
This walk is restricted to 18 walkers and you are requested to book online before 6.00pm on Saturday, 28th March using the website link below.
Please dress appropriately for the predicted weather on the day.
Please bring sufficient food and drink for the day.
