Overview

The walk follows tracks and trails through Savernake Forest, before breaking out into the countryside to the West of the Forest.  Leaving the car park, we follow woodland tracks through the forest on a trail that takes in several very ancient oak trees.  After 4 miles or so, we leave the forest heading South West, making for the appropriately named Mud Lane, before turning North to make our way past various farms to reach Cadley.  Here we enter the forest again, passing another two ancient trees as we return to the car park.

The going varies from good to soft/wet, with some muddy/very muddy stretches on bridleways and some of the tracks in the forest.  Walking poles and gaiters recommended for those using them.  There are 12 stiles, four of which are in less than good condition.
