Join me as we leave the Climbing Centre Carpark, to slowly climb for 10 minutes up Graig Fargoed, part of the Merthyr and Gelligaer common, the first of two inclines on this walk.
Stopping to catch our breath, we'll hopefully see Red Kites, which can often be seen flying in this area. I spotted 5 on my recent recce.
We carry on across the flat top of Graig Fargoed, admiring the magnificent valley views below us of the villages of Trelewis and Bedlinog.
Our next , longer but gradual incline takes us up past the remote Graig Fargoed Cemetery. This is another good Red KIte viewpoint.
Heading down a very quiet road , on a grass verge for half a mile, we eventually reach our starting point.
Dogs welcome on leads.
Some overgrown ferns, brambles and nettles in places. Long trousers advised.
One Stile ( no dog flap) and one cattle grid.
Some road walking.
Extra water, advised.
Poles if used, advised.
