Saturday afternoon Ramble!!!!
This is a lovely, 5 mile, easy coastal ramble from Rhoose Point to Barry Island.
Catching the train 13.39 train from Cardiff Central to Rhoose Cardiff International Airport (please note I will getting on the train at Eastbrook Station). The train arrives in Rhoose at 14.10pm. From here we will walk down the path towards the coast, where we will turn left, following the coast all the way to Barry Island.
Approximately half way, we will reach Porthkerry park where we will stop for a refreshment break / toilets etc. Leaving Porthkerry we will climb a long set of steps to rejoin the path. This is the hardest part of an otherwise easy walk. We will take our time up these steps. From here we will continue along the coast heading towards Barry Island.
As we approach Barry Island, (and if I have calculated the tide times correctly!), we will be able to cross the Bay. (There is a slightly longer route around the bay if we miss low tide). Even though we are aiming for low tide, please note there is a small stretch of water that cannot be avoided, so I recommend sturdy, waterproof footwear.
Hopefully we will arrive in Barry Island in time for a nice chippy tea on the seafront before heading to Barry Island Train Station to head home (Trains run approximately 3 times per hour back to Cardiff).
Please wear sturdy, waterproof footwear for when we cross the bay at the end of the walk.
There are a couple of sets of steps, one is quite long. Other than that the walk is easy.
