On the edge of Bowland, and next to the River Ribble, Ribchester still has the remains of its Roman heritage. We park in the centre of the village in the coach/car park where toilets are available. Our walks today may take you along the bank of the river or up into the hills. Wherever you walk there will be a pub at the end for refreshments before we leave for home.
Three walks will be available, with details circulated on the coach. They will range from easy to strenuous depending on the walk selected.
A Walk Leader - Dave White - Map will be posted on our Facebook page soon.
B Walk Leader - Dave Eccles - 8.8 to 9 miles with a total ascent of 1300ft. Mostly across fields with a few short walks along country lanes. A gradual climb from the start for around 3 miles, followed a descent, going back into Ribchester via woodland and farm tracks. Avoiding the river bank as (on the recce) the river was very high and fast flowing, with a very muddy and slippery bank path.
C Walk Leader - Christine Vasey & Carol Gummerson. Leaving Ribchester we go north to Stydd and upwards to Duddel Hill. We then go north west to Cutler 's Hill and then to Intack and back down again to Ribchester. We should get some wonderful views over the Ribble Valley if the sun shines. On our return there is The Barn Cafe open until 4.30pm serving tea, coffee and delicious cakes. There are also several pubs including the well known White Bull.
