A linear walk taking us from the elegant riverside of Richmond, through the wide-open spaces of The Park, before returning to the riverside at Mortlake and then onwards by way of the manicured formal gardens of Chiswick Park. We will finish our walk at Turnham Green on the site of the Civil War battle where in 1642 the Parliamentarian forces barred The King's march on London. Mercifully the conflict was limited to skirmishing and at the end of the day King Charles withdrew his forces so the total loss of life was probably fewer than 50. Charles never succeeded in taking London, indeed this was the closest he came to doing-so.
