Circular walk around the largest natural loch in the Borders , initially follows the Southern Upland Way along the peaceful east bank and through the remnants of a former royal hunting forest before joining an old drover’ path to return to the start .
There will be the opportunity to car share from Selkirk . Meet at 9.20am at rugby pitch car park , over the bridge, on the right hand side, opposite the A708 road that goes to the Waterwheel and St Mary’s Loch.
There are a mixture of paths , mostly good on the East side , grassy tracks , tracks , wide verges at side of road , muddy on drove road . There is a possibility of cattle on the return and may need to avoid by road walking .
Boots and walking poles recommended . Food and drink for 3 stops
