This is a very popular destination for us as it is not far from home, yet offers both hills to climb and low level walks in glorious countryside. The first pick-up will be at the bus stop by the Plough Roundabout at Crossens in Southport, and pick-up at points going South.
Three walks will be on offer, with full details circulated on the coach. They will range from easy low level walking to (maybe) up to Rivington Pike and Winter Hill.
The Walk Leaders today will be -
A Walk Leader - Janet Loines - A circular walk from Rivington Hall of 10.8 miles, with a total ascent of 1426ft. Going through the Gardens up to The Tower, then over moorland tracks and paths to Great Hill. We descend to White Coppice and follow paths and tracks along Anglezark and Rivington Reservoirs to return to Rivington.
B Walk Leader - Dave Trembath - A circular walk of 9 miles with a total ascent of 1050ft. From Great House Barn we cross over Rivington Reservoir and head up to the northern end of Anglezarke Reservoir. We turn south on the other side of the reservoirs for the return, with a stop off at the Wellington Bomber crash memorial.
C Walk Leader - Pam Ashton - Six miles, walking to the Gardens and up to the Tower. From here we will descend to Anglezark Reservoir, and walk along it until we reach a path back to the Barns and car park.
