The walk starts from the village hall in the well known Moors' village of Danby and heads south passing through the nearby village of Ainthorpe. At this point we start the long, slow, climb up onto Danby Rigg with its stunning views down into Little Fryup Dale. Two miles into the walk we head south west along the Jack Sledge Road, in fact, a path, before a short, but steep, descent takes us in the direction of Botton with its farm, shop and cafe linked to the Camphill Trust that provides homes for people with learning disabilities.
Heading west along a quiet road we reach Stormy Hall where we head north along the Esk Valley Walk, again offering impressive views of the dale and the ridge high above from which we had descended earlier. A mile to the south of Castleton we leave the Esk Valley Walk and make our way over Danby Moor to Ainthorpe where we retrace our footsteps to the village hall in Danby.

The public toilets in Danby are now closed. However, the Moors' Center further on from the village has toilets and a cafe.
