Starting from the village of Newton-on-Rawcliffe, this ten-mile circular hike explores the northern end of Newton Dale. With some steep climbs and descents, the walk has a total ascent of about 1,500 feet. For the outward section, we head up the eastern side of the Dale and take a morning break at Skelton Tower, from where there are splendid views of the valley below and The North Yorkshire Moors railway in particular. For the return phase, the route leads us from Newton Dale Halt down the western side of the Dale and the eastern edge of Cropton Forest.
