Starting from Gribdale Gate CP we make the short climb up to Captain Cook’s Monument to take in the magnificent views of the Cleveland Hills and the North York Moors. From the monument we have a steep descent through Ayton Banks Wood (walking poles recommended) then onto Dikes Lane before we cut off to Cliff Ridge Wood. Continuing through the wood we eventually come across an ‘in situ’ picture frame (great for photo shoots) before taking a path up to Roseberry Topping where there is a choice of the steep ascent to the top or taking the path around the base of the hill. Our last ‘summit’ is taking a track towards Hutton Village and then up to Highcliff Nab with outstanding views of Guisborough. Our final journey back to the CP is along the historic Cleveland Way across Hutton Moor.
This walk is strenuous in parts but rewarding. We ‘summit’ three of the most iconic locations in North Yorkshire - Captain Cook’s Monument, Roseberry Topping, Highcliff Nab - locally named as the Cleveland Three Peaks.
