A linear coastal walk from Scarborough to Filey following the Cleveland Way National Trail for most of the way. It takes in stunning views over cliff tops featuring beauty spots such as Cayton Bay and Filey Brigg, together with various rock formations.
We'll meet by the benches between the Grand Hotel and St Nicholas Cafe. From here we'll head across the Spa Bridge, past the Scarborough Spa and along the Cleveland Way coastal path. We'll stop at Cayton Bay for lunch by the beach. There are toilets and a coffee shack called 'The Salty Dog' which sells both hot and cold refreshments and snacks. After lunch, we will continue along the coast to Filey, stopping to walk out to the Filey Brigg viewpoint. Once we've seen Filey Brigg, we'll then head to Filey via the beach. If the tide is in, we'll use an alternative higher path to reach Filey. The end point is outside the Bayview Bar on the seafront, where we'll have a well-earned drink. Filey has a number of nice pubs, cafes and shops to explore. Whenever you are ready, there are regular buses and trains taking you directly back to Scarborough.
Parts of the coastal path could be slippy so walking boots are recommended. Some parts of the paths are close to nettles so trousers might be preferable. Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome.
The meeting point is about a 10 minutes walk from the train station.
If you are arriving by car, Scarborough has numerous carparks, including the NCP Balmoral car park.
