The walk will begin at the Marina car park which is right at the top of the road leading down to the marina; it is currently surrounded by temporary fencing.
The car park is opposite the Pit Wheel and across the street from bell’s Fish and Chips.

Details of the walk
This is a leisurely walk of 5.75 miles along the Durham Heritage Coast to Hawthorn Dene. There are a few steps and some gentle gradients. There are toilets near the beginning of the walk. The walk down to the Marina toilet is fairly steep but short. Some parts of the walk may be muddy if there has been heavy rain.
We will start by going down into the marina, where there are public toilets. We will then walk past the port of Seaham toward Blast Beach, a nature reserve managed by the National Trust. At the top of the reserve, we will cross over into Hawthorn Dene, passing by Hawthorn Quarry. In the dene, we will do a short loop and see the viaduct. We will stop for lunch in a meadow before walking back toward Seaham along the coast.
Back in town, there are plenty of places to have coffee, ice cream, and fish and chips.
Best wishes,
Zoe
