Overview

This is an ‘up and over’  hill climb to 370 metres, with grand views over to Cardon on the way up and to Tinto and Biggar from the top. The going follows tracks on the way up and round the top, till we plunge into the woodland on the way down. There’s a short amount of tar (5-10 mins) at the start and from the Church to the Chinese walk, which is a pleasant meander along Coulter Water back to the cars.

The distance is 4.0 miles and we’ll probably take around 2.5 hours (includes a coffee break at the top).

Note - the ascent and descent are quite steep, but not long. The Ramblers grading is ‘moderate’. Our grading is C+

When you get to Coulter on the A702, take the road off the tight bend to Coulter reservoir. Follow the road past the School and turn off for the Village Hall till the road divides just over the metal bridge. The layby is just on the left at the start of the road to Nisbet.
