Explore the countryside around Shawford and Compton with its valley of fields. Discover views and ancient yews on this beautiful walk along the Itchen Navigation. Setting off from Shawford Down lower car park we soon join the Itchen Way and follow this up-stream for about a mile. We then head under the Hockley Viaduct on route to St. Cross for a short break with the option for a quick tea or coffee from its cafe. We then head over the railway track and head up Compton Down before descending Shawford Down back to the start.

Free car park at the bottom of Shawford Down. Shawford railway station is a short distance away and has additional parking. Please consider car sharing as the car park is not large or let the train take the strain as it is only 6 minutes from Eastleigh or 4 minutes from Winchester. There is also some additional roadside car parking available.
