A walk I cannot recall Doncaster Ramblers dong in the last 5 years, so possibly a new route for some. Starting at the free National Trust/RSPB car park at Shillito Wood we follow the stream flowing north to Bank wood, then it's a short but steep climb to the B6054 at Lydgate, then generally downhill to Totley, eventually reaching the Cricket Inn at Totley Bents for lunch. It's then a long fairly steep climb up Strawberry Lane to Wimble Holme Hill. We then turn south following a track on open moorland following Brown Edge and Flask Edge to the B6054, then continue on open moorland tracks to the A621. It's then back to the start point via the abandoned Ramsley Reservoir.
The pre walk was carried out in early April and the underfoot conditions were wet, very muddy and slippery. Hopefully, as the walk is in June, the ground will have dried and walking will be easier. If the weather is fine we will get great views of Sheffield and the surrounding hills and moors. Quite a few stiles on sections of the walk before lunch but most are dog friendly so bring your four legged friend.
Note: no toilets at the car park but available at lunch in the Cricket Inn
If it's a warm summer day carry plenty of fluids as no shade when we are the open moorland.
