Shildon
A moderate 8.6 mile walk around the countryside to the west of Shildon. A town famous for it's role in the development of the railway. Starting from the Hackworth industrial estate, we will head North West towards St Helen Auckland, passing a famous location and a nature reserve before turning south towards our lunch stop at around the 4 mile point. After lunch we will say goodbye to our short walking friends and head eastwards towards Todd Fall Farm, before turning northwards for our final leg.
The walk has a mixture of good paths, open countryside, fields, lovely views, history, a bit of road walking, some inclines, mud in places and a brook to cross on the longer walk. I would advise sticks and gaiters if you use them. There are some sheep and a small number of friendly horses on this walk, so I wouldn't advise bringing a dog.
A short walk of approx. 4.3 miles will kindly be made available by Dave Marshall.
