This very busy market town has one of the best mediaeval castles in the country, and has the Leeds to Liverpool Canal running through its centre. Normaly a winter destination it is nice to be back here in springtime. With our coach parked up just off the main street we are ideally placed for "doing the attractions". Better still join one of todays walk, and you could find yourself walking to Gargrave, going up onto Embsay Moors, or the smaller Skipton Moor to the South. You may even get to chance to walk to Bolton Abbey and Back. Full details of the walks on offer will be available on the coach.
Whilst Skipton would normally be a North Pick-up route, today we are picking-up going SOUTH, using the M58 and M65.
With three walks available you will have the choice of going uphill or along the canal. Walk Leaders today will be -
A Walk Leader - Clare Vattev - 12.5 miles and 1500ft of ascent. This walk starts at East Marton and we follow the Pennine Way to Gargrave. Here we leave the PW for a short canal walk before heading for Eshton Hall. Then on to Suntergill and Flasby Fell. Climb up to Rough Haw, continuing on the Dales High Way to the Trig Point on Sharp Haw. Descent into Skipton via Skipton Castle Woods.
B Walk Leader - Dave White - 9.2 miles and starting from East Marton going south along the Pennine Way to Thornton-in-Craven. Then heading for Elslack Reservoir, then mainly on field footpaths into Skipton.
C Walk Leader - Isobel Colquhoun - Around 7.5 miles, starting and ending in Skipton Castle Wood. Mainly on good paths with some gentle climbing, with a nice half-way point by the reservoir.
