Minor update:
Having now recce'd , the route plotted out on my app at 5.08 miles came to 6.29 miles on the ground ?! - so slightly longer than originally thought, I have updated on the programme. But not a challenging walk, and it will be at a relaxed pace. (Not quite as coastal as originally had intended either - sorry Joanie ! - the distances round to Colwell / Totland beach would have been a bit too much distance for our available timeframe, but we do get down to the coast for a bit at Fort Victoria. This has been amended below).
We will head from the lovely Golden Hill Country Park, down to the Causeway at Freshwater, then following the Freshwater Way. Some of us were wondering recently about walking through the reeds and where the ground is dry at the moment we can do that - see pic - unless any objections in which case there is a (slightly shorter but less amazonian) road option . We continue on the Freshwater Way through Norton Green and down to the coast, there picking up the Coastal Path. Drinks stop at Fort Victoria. Then up on the Coastal Path through the woods, and back via Monks Lane to our startpoint at Golden Hill for birthday cake and bubbles

Whether you know her or not, we hope you can join us for an afternoon walk to celebrate rambler Joan's birthday with her today !
Meeting at Golden Hill Fort (free car park), and also accessible by No 7 bus (Heathfield Close stop, and walk back round the corner to Golden Hill Fort) for a 1.30pm start, this will be an approx 4-5 mile leisurely circular walk.
Precise route yet to be recce'd, but it will include some coastal and some inland walking, and hopefully will allow time for a drinks stop by the sea at Fort Victoria, as well as a slice of celebratory birthday cake when we return to Golden Hill
Toilets at Fort Victoria (free)
By car
Free parking at Golden Hill Fort
By bus
No 7 buses from Newport and Ryde both stop at Heathfield Close stop at 13:05 - walk onto the main road and just around the corner to Golden Hill Fort, it is only a few mins walk.

Emergencies
It's very rare that an emergency occurs, but we may need info about
- • Any health concerns that you have
- • Any emergency contact information
We'd ask you to make sure that we have ready access to this, if needed.
Some people may wish to carry an ICE (in case of emergency) card. We have Ramblers cards for this purpose. Do discuss this subject with your walk leader if it is of interest.
WhatsApp group
If you would like to join the informal WhatsApp group (even just for the purposes of communicating regarding this specific walk and then exit again), please message Serena on 07564 811690 to be added.
