Our planned route is westwards along field paths and lanes to join the Macclesfield Canal at Hall Green. We will then walk southwards to the join the Trent and Mersey Canal where we turn north-eastwards back to the start.
The walk makes use of field paths, tracks, lanes, and the towpaths of two very different canals. The intended route is largely flat with approximately five stiles, but the paths could be muddy so walking poles may be helpful if you use them.
On the quiet Macclesfield Canal look out for unusual wildlife including kingfishers and herons, while the double locks on the Trent and Mersey Canal indicate its national importance as a transport link during the 19th century.
