Overview

 LINEAR Walk, 6 miles approximate. Starting at Avington Turn bus stop, follow South Downs Way, Cheesefoot Head, Deacon Hill, Chilcomb, down in to Winchester city centre. There you can avail of shops, Cathedral Christmas Market, cafes etc, and return on bus to Alton. More than just a walk, make a day of it!

Joining Instructions:

Take Stagecoach no 64 bus (Alton Station 09:35, High St 09:40, Sports Centre 09:46, Four Marks station approach 09:53, Alresford Co-op 10:05) to the “AVINGTON TURN” stop (usually announced on the bus or ask the driver to stop there, as you board), SU5328 2938, along A31. Walk Leader will join this bus at Four Marks. Car Parking available at Sports Centre, Four Marks behind BP garage etc as required. Walk will commence from the Avington Turn bus stop at 10:20 approx. There is NO Parking at the start point.  Finish the walk by about 1:00. Bus back from Winchester city centre.

After the walk, we arrive in Winchester City centre- a break for shops etc there is of course optional. We each return on any 64 bus from the Broadway (Alfred Statue), every 30 mins, at :15 and :45 past the hour. Bus passes Alresford, Four Marks and Alton

Don’t forget your  Pensioners bus passes! (fare is £3 each way on bus if not, pay by card or cash).
