Overview

This is a fairly strenuous (B+) figure of eight walk from St Mary's Loch to Ettrick Kirk returning by the Loch of the Lowes. Distance is 10.5 miles with ascent of 1000ft.

We follow the Southern Upland Way (SUW) to Riskinhope Hope (Coffee stop) and continue along the base of Peniestone Knowe before  leaving the SUW to take the "path" to Ettrick Kirk (Lunch stop). We then walk along the minor road to Scabcleuch and rejoin the SUW before descending towards Riskinhope Farm and return to our cars via the Loch of the Lowes. Estimated finish time at St Mary's Loch is 4.00 pm.

The walk is on a mixture of paths, sheep tracks and a fair amount of rough ground.
