The walk will start from Preston on Stour, which is a pretty village and is part of a conservation area which has seen little new buildings since the mid 19th century. The village was mentioned in the Domesday Book and was owned by Deerhurst Priory, near Tewkesbury, and was eventually brought in 1747 by the West family, some of the houses are still part of their Alscot Estate.
The oldest building in the village is a timber-framed cottage dating back to the 16th century and is reputed to have been a priest's house. The 17th century framed cottage next to it is now the only thatched building in the village. There are two adjoining cottages made of wattle and daub and two terraces of 18th or early 19th century brick cottages.
It is a linear walk which will take us along the Shakespeare Way through the villages of Altherstone on Stour and Clifford Chambers and then into Stratford upon Avon to complete the walk.
