Overview

This is the 6th of our Thames Footpath walks. If you haven't completed any of the previous walks then no problem - you can just join us for this one if you prefer

We will meet at Chertsey station and walk through the town to our start point by the river at Chertsey Bridge (included in the mileage). Really pleasant walking until we hit the commercial hub that is Staines after c4 miles.  There are toilets in Staines if we make a short detour to use the large Sainsbury's facilities.  This is our last town within the M25.

From Staines we go onto Runnymede where we pass by the Runnymede hotel – which has a very large collection of plastic ducks in reception – but does a very bad afternoon tea…. Runnymede itself – famous for the signing of the Magna Carta.  We have a short patch walking alongside a busy road and often with planes overhead but it soon returns to tranquility. We find a statue of the Queen at Egham and if we are lucky an open café – which we have the option to use as our lunch stop.

We then move onto the Albert Bridge and Old Windsor – where a royal settlement existed in the 9th century.  From Old Windsor we go onto Datchet for our late lunch or second lunch stop! Datchet promises a lot but really we only have a Costa as our option….  We then have a little over 2 miles to get us to our end point of Eton and Windsor – where handily the station is right by the footpath.  For those who want you can walk into Royal Windsor for a look around.  Windsor and Eton Riverside station offers different travel options. Easiest will be a train direct to Waterloo taking c55 minutes.  The fastest option is to Paddington but this requires 2 changes.  All tickets to London cost £11.50. And we are outside of the Oyster zone! Dogs are welcomed and boots are recommended - it could be muddy...
