This is the 9th leg of our route along the Thames footpath. You do not need to have walked any of the other stretches – you are welcome to come along just for today! Dogs are also welcome
The first 1.5 miles are classic Thames Footpath – but then excitement – because of a bridge closure at Temple Lock we have to go inland and cross country for a 3 mile diversion – which includes a hill! The diversion is actually good – we see some great sculptures at Harleyford Golf Club, and go through a strange tunnel at Danesfield House. We then have a very exciting river crossing at Hambledon Lock before we rejoin the footpath. Houses in this area are believed to have inspired Toad Hall in Wind in the Willows. There is then a great 2.5 mile stretch along the river that takes us into Henley.
There are no obvious lunch stops today – so a big breakfast and sandwiches for a DIY lunch on route is the order of the day.
Distances to and from stations – and diversions - are included in the estimated mileage. Trains from Henley on Thames to Paddington take c50 minutes
This is the first walk of a 2 day West Kent walking weekend - there is a second walk starting from Henley on Sunday 17th. There is no obligation to attend the Sunday walk
Please note revised start time of 11 am
