A walk in the varied and lovely scenery around the reservoirs on the edge of Darwen. From our parking spot at Turton & Entwistle Reservoir, we will head uphill onto part of the Witton Weavers Way, where it is all downhill as far as Turton Tower. Here we can enjoy an early coffee stop at the Turton Tower Woodland Cafe (bring your own or purchase; toilets also available). There is also a chance to look at the Kitchen Garden.
From there we will skirt the top of Jumbles Reservoir, before passing through Turton Bottoms and up to the Wayoh Reservoir. Walking along the side of the reservoir, we will make our way back to our parking spot through woodland.
Note, this involves a reasonable amount of hill walking, which should not be a problem for regular walkers.
Dogs welcome, as long as they are kept on a lead throughout the walk. There are also sheep grazing.
Park at the lower reservoir car park (free parking). Signposted Entwistle Reservoir, Bartridge Road Car Park from the B6391 (Green Arms Road). Accessed via Bartridge Road (look out for this as the signpost to the car park is overgrown). United Utilities are currently working on this site, and have closed off part of the car park. They are expected to finish before the walk date, however there are currently limited spaces. There are more parking spaces on the Upper Car park.
The Upper Car Park is also accessed via Green Arms Road. Signposted Entwistle Reservoir Bartridge BARN Car park. If you find yourself on the higher car park, wait & we will pass through there en route.
Please allow extra time for parking as we will need to leave the lower car park at 1p.m. & should pass through the upper car park at 1:05 p.m. approx.
The lower car park is 10 minutes walk from Entwistle Station for those wishing to come by public transport.
