This is a challenging circular/figure 8 walk which starts at the top of Watch Water Reservoir, following the Southern Upland Way to and then beyond the Twin Law Cairns. The walk continues on the Southern Upland Way a short distance, passing a third cairn before dropping down into the valley where it follows the Watch Water back to the windfarm track. From there a high moorland path, with great views of the reservoir, is taken back to the start.
The path underfoot is uneven and tricky in places as we cross open moorland.
There are stiles to climb.
Poles and boots advised.
For those wanting a slower pace and shorter walk without the challenge of open moorland, there could be an option to turn back on reaching the Twin Law Cairns, and to follow the SUW back to the start. Contact walk leader to discuss.
Circular walk, grade B+, strenuous. Hiking boots and poles are recommended.
