The parish church of St Mary the Virgin does back to 1179. The Curzon family of Earl Howe were the former patrons. The church includes a monument by Sir George Frampton dedicated to Georgina, Countess Howe, first wife of the 4th Earl Howe.
Only significant building in Barton is the Baptist Church where in the 18th century notable clockmaker Samuel Deacon was minister.
Carlton sits East of the River Sence and is a former Norman settlement.
