The walk follows the Ridgeway and the paths, tracks and lanes through the fields of the Vale of the White Horse. Leaving the carpark, we head West along the Ridgeway for a short while before descending and making for Westcot. We continue, skirting Kingston Lisle, passing through Fawler on our way to Uffington. Here, we continue West making for Woolstone, climbing Woolstone Hill to reach Uffington Castle and the White Horse, from where we follow the Ridgeway East back to the carpark.
The going will vary from good to soft/wet/very wet, with some very muddy stretches – gaiters and walking poles are recommended for those who use them. The chalk on the Ridgeway is relatively sound underfoot. There are a number of very ropey stiles, all of which we can avoid except one; there are 3 other stiles, all in sound condition.
Please bring sufficient food and water for the day and be equipped with regard to the weather forecast, given that some stretches of the Ridgeway can be quite exposed.
The walk is limited to 18 walkers, please book using the booking form.
