Overview

UPDATE:

I have updated on the whatsapp group and now doing so here…...

ROUTE:
I have now recce’d our walk route with Tiggi - circular 5.3 miles (237 feet elevation) – screenshot attached. Not a bad walk, varied -  country / town / river. Not a difficult walk, bit of road-walking (this is the outskirts of Newport after ),  but I should mention  there are several (not dog-friendly) stiles. One of which is broken (see pic) and whilst I have reported  this I am not expecting it to be fixed before Saturday so basically one is climbing over the pictured fence at this point - not difficult  (if I can do it without a problem...) but just for you to be aware....

LOCATION:

Although it is along the main Fairlee Road, the Postal Museum is tucked away so I am attaching below photos  of:

(a) the junction where you turn in off Fairlee Road; and

(b) the entrance, which is immediately on your left (there is parking available in there)

TOILETS:

Just a quick upodate for anyone who was wondering…

The lovely museum owner Arthur says walkers may use the toilet in the house if wished, and also says walkers are welcome to take a break when they come back for their cars at the end of the walk.

We also pass public toilets at Seaclose

Any queries you are welcome to contact me

I love this quirky private museum and hope you will too !  Museum entry is free, but relies on donations, so no obligation but if you do feel are you are able to make a contribution on the day that would be much appreciated

***********************************************************************************************************

You may or may not know the Isle of Wight Postal Museum on Fairlee Road just outside Newport. It is a real hidden gem! A fascinating and quirky museum about all things postal, with some great tales from the owner Mr Arthur Reeder, well worth a visit if you've not been before - and always something new to spot and learn if you have !

This is a private museum run by Mr Reeder, open only by appointment, who has kindly agreed to open for a private group visit for the IOW Ramblers on the morning of Sat 2 Aug.  There is no entry charge however the Museum is funded wholly by donations and you are invited to make a donation to help support it

The plan is to meet at the Postal Museum at 10.00am for our visit, and then head off for our walk, timing depending how the visit goes, but, pure guesstimate, maybe around 11.00am.

The museum owner has kindly agreed that we can leave any cars at the Museum for the duration of our walk (there is plenty of parking). The museum is on the No 9 bus route from Newport or Ryde with regular buses, and on the No 5 route from East Cowes.

The precise route of our walk is not yet known pending recce, but is planned to be an approx 5 mile circular with, I should think, partly a stretch down and along the river, and one inland into the countryside. This listing will be updated with further details in due course, so if you want more detail on the route please check back nearer the time.

Formal booking not strictly required, but because this walk includes a visit to, and parking on, the Museum owner's private property it would be helpful and courteous to give an idea of how many people cars. Could you therefore let me know (text or Whatsapp 07564-811690, or email serenaheyeshotmail.co.uk) if you are planning to join us)? I will also post a note on the Whatsapp group nearer the time. Thank you !
