Overview

A gentle walk of just under 10 miles from Exeter Central station to 'The Beer Engine' pub in Newton St Cyres.

This is a linear walk and we will get the train back from Newton St Cyres to Exeter at the end.

The walk will start at Exeter Central station at 10.30 and go through St James in Exeter towards Mincinglake Valley Park where we will join the Exeter Green Circle. From here we will walk uphill towards a Roman hillfort and then down through Stoke woods. Crossing the River Exe, we will pick up the Exe Valley Way for a bit before going through Upton Pyne and then along the River Creedy towards Newton St Cyres. The walk goes through woods and farmland, and along rivers. The route is muddy so please wear suitable footwear.

At Newton St Cyres there is the opportunity to have refreshments at the 'Beer Engine' pub which has it's own brewery on site. If you want to, you can also stay for dinner (they have nice pies :) ) but please let me know in advance if you want to eat. I have booked a table for up to 10 people for an early dinner at 5pm but if we need more places, I need to let them know beforehand.

we will get to Newton St Cyres at about 15.30. The journey back to Exeter takes about 10 minutes and there are trains back to Exeter at: 14.53, 16.54, 17.26, 18.39, 19.28, 19.58, 20.42, 21.17, 22.38 and 23.33. This means people can choose the best option for them, whether that be a coffee/pint, food or making a night of it!

I have put this walk on a Saturday because there are more trains and I thought it would be nice to have a bit of a social if anyone is up for it!

The walk itself will be at a 'comfortable' pace so is a good option
for those who like a leisurely walk or may want to have a social day.

As we are leaving from the train station, the walk is also suitable for those who don't have cars. If you do need to drive, I would suggest car sharing because the car parks in Exeter can be a bit pricey. I would suggest Howell Road car park, which is near the station and is £13 for the whole day https://exeter.gov.uk/car-parking/car-parks/zone-1-car-parks/howell-road-car-park/

Looking forward to it!
