Overview

Corris used to be a very busy village being in the Slate belt which was extensively developed in the 18 & early 19 hundreds. There used to be a narrow gauge railway running from the quarries down to Machynlleth & Derwenlas where the slate was loaded onto  vessels for export & a short stretch is still operated by steam trains as a tourist attraction. Today's walk starts at the Craft Centre & passes an Italianate garden on the way to the slate quarries above Corris Uchaf .   The walk descends back down through Corris Uchaf to the Craft Centre where there is a cafe & other sales outlets.
