Overview

On a clear day this walk will offer some far reaching views over the Vale of York and the Yorkshire Wolds.

The start point of the walk is near Hanging Grimston (see map). After a short walk along the Roman Road we turn left onto a minor road past Wold Farm to Hanging Grimston, offering fine views over Deep Dale to the Vale of York. Taking a footpath down to Brownmoor Dale, we walk on access land above Water Dale before joining the Yorkshire Wolds Way above Thixendale. There is then a steep ascent up Vessey Hill to North Plantation. Joining the Chalkland Way for the rest of the walk, we pass through the pretty village of Thixendale and follow a steady ascent up Thixendale and Milham Dale to our starting point.
